How to...

You know about an article; find it

From the PHDL Page. If you have details about the article, use the Citation Matcher from the top menu or the bottom of the PHDL Page. You can enter parts of the citation:

  • Title; Author; Journal; Year;  DOI or PMID

If the article is in the PHDL, you are taken to the full text.  If the article is not in the PHDL, a pre-filled form will let you order the article through your department’s Partner Library. There is no charge for your requests.

Browse through articles in the journal collection

The PHDL Search Tool will help you get to journals and their articles=

  1. Select Journals
  2. Use either
  • Search Box,
  • Browse Box to select a subject area; or
  • Browse by letter

Click the Journal name to go to the full texts.  *You can also create a Journal Alert to send tables of contents to your email

You want to Search a Topic

  1. Use the PubMed Search box to enter a topic Searching in PubMed.
  2. View in Abstract Format to see the Check PHDL button.  Check PHDL takes you to your full-text article or a pop-up window to help you request the article. The Check PHDL button appears in every citation when viewed in Abstract format.
  3. When you find an article you want, click on the Check PHDL.  If the article is in the PHDL collection, you are taken to the full text article in HTML or PDF. If the article is not in the PHDL, a pop-up form will let you order the article.

Document Delivery

PHDL users can request articles through your Partner Library. Your Partner Library will receive your article request either from your search in PubMed or your searching the Citation Matcher.

If the article is not part of the collection:  a pre-filled form will load to let you order the article.

The Document Delivery pop-up will include specific instructions for setting up and receiving your requested article.

If your Partner Library uses an ILL platform like ILLIAD:

  • You will need to do a one-time registration
  • The article information will fill the request page; send the request
  • When filled you will be sent a link to the article

If your Partner Library uses email for sending and receiving requests:

  • You will enter your contact information with your department email.
  • When filled you will be emailed the article

There is no charge to you for Document Delivery service.
